- Sir Demis Hassabis, this year's Keio Medical Science Prize winner, awarded the 2024 Nobel Prize in Chemistry
On October 9, the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences announced that the 2024 Nobel Prize in Chemistry would be awarded to three recipients: Demis Hassabis, co-founder and CEO of Google DeepMind; John Jumper, also from DeepMind; and Professor David Baker of the University of Washington.Sir Demis Hassabis was also awarded the 2024 Keio Medical Science Prize and is scheduled to attend the award ceremony and lecture at Keio University's Shinanomachi Campus on Wednesday, November 20 (JST). He was recognized for developing technology that uses artificial intelligence (AI) to predict protein structures, a breakthrough that has significantly impacted the development of pharmaceuticals and chemicals.

- Dr. Victor Ambros, Winner of the 2013(18th) Keio Medical Science Prize in Physiology or Medicine, Receives the Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine
The Karolinska Institutet in Sweden announced on November 7, 2024 that this year's Nobel Prize in Physiology or Medicine will be awarded to Dr. Victor Ambros of UMass Chan Medical School, USA (jointly with Dr. Gary Rabkan of Harvard University, USA), winner of the 18th Keio Medical Science Prize. Dr. Ambros is the 11th past recipient of the Keio Medical Science Prize to subsequently receives the Nobel Prize, and this marks the third consecutive year in which a Keio Medical Science Prize Laureate has been honored with the Nobel Prize. He follows Dr. Katalin Karikó , who won in 2023, and Dr. Svante Pääbo, who won in 2022.

- World's First "Dr. Katalin Karikó Exhibition" at Keio Shinanomachi Campus (September 21 - October 21)
An exhibition organized by the Embassy of Hungary has been held at Keio University's Shinanomachi Campus to highlight the achievements of Hungarian-American biochemist Dr. Katalin Karikó, who was awarded the 26th Keio Medical Science Prize last year. Dr. Katalin Karikó is highly regarded for her basic research leading to the development of messenger RNA vaccines, and we hope you will enjoy the exhibition introducing her life and achievements using cartoons depicting her.

This exhibition aims to promote the achievements of Hungarian bioscientist Dr. Katalin Kari-kó .The Embassy of Hungary and Keio University have collaborated on this project as Dr. Karikó was a recipient of last year's Keio Medical Science Prize. The exhibition will use photographs, var-ious exhibits, and videos to introduce her life and achievements as well as the country of Hungary.

Dr Karikó was born in Hungary in 1955 and received her PhD in Biochemistry from the Univer-sity of Szeged, Hungary. In 1985, she and moved to the United States before continuing her re-search on mRNA at BioNTech SE, headquartered in Mainz, Germany, where her technology was used to develop the new coronavirus vaccine introduced by BioNTech/Pfizer.
